SURREALIST ART!
THINK
Do you know about Surrealism? Surrealism is an art movement that includes pictures, films and writings of dream like subjects. Surrealist artists explored combining the ideas of what is real and what is imagined. When you explore and create art you use a different part of your brain then when you are doing math or writing. Your brain is like a muscle that needs to be exercised. So get ready to stretch your brain and see what you can imagine and create!
PLAN
Gather your art materials. Do you have any magazines or newspapers that you can cut up? Ask your parents for help. What are your favorite things around your room or house? Do you have any papers or markers? Take the supplies that interest you and look through them. What images do you see? Does anything spark your imagination? Can you put something together in a new and unique way? Think about what you can do to make something new by using your imagination.
CREATE
I started my Surrealist collage by cutting out images that I found interesting. I cut out a few pictures and then arranged them and moved them around like a puzzle. As I moved my images around I began to get ideas. My imagination began to flow and I started to get more and more ideas as I worked. Because in Surrealism, some images can be imagined, you have more freedom to use the pictures in funny or different ways. Cut out some images from magazines and newspaper. See what colors and images you like. Arrange them in interesting and funny ways to see what new ideas you might have. When you finish arranging them put them together in a new way. This can be a fun game that you can try with a family member. You can glue your images down, or keep them separate so that you can continue to put them together in different ways. You can add your own details to make your creation unique. You can make whatever you like. Try making a portrait, landscape or still life in a Surreal style. Have fun and use your imagination!
